How Three Scandalous Women Became a Family

When Julia and I first wrote the Scandalous Sirens books, we were writing three romances about three very different women.

Elisa is fighting to reclaim the son who was taken from her.

Natasha is fiercely independent and has absolutely no intention of surrendering that independence merely because society thinks a woman ought to marry.

And Annalies has lost almost everything—her homeland, her fortune, and her place in the world—but certainly hasn’t lost her opinions.

Each woman gets her own romance and her own happily-ever-after. But somewhere along the way, something else happened.

They became sisters.

Not sisters by blood, but by choice, affection, shared history, and all the complicated connections that accumulate when lives become thoroughly entangled. By the end of the trilogy, Elisa, Natasha and Annalies haven’t merely found the men they love. They’ve found each other. And without realizing it at the time, I had the foundations of a much bigger family.

Because their stories don’t really end with Scandalous Sirens. Their children grow up. Those children have known one another all their lives. They inherit the friendships and loyalties their parents forged, along with an unconventional extended family that doesn’t necessarily care very much about what polite Victorian society thinks it ought to look like.

And eventually, those children began demanding stories of their own. They became the heroes and heroines of the Scandalous Scions series.

So although Scandalous Sirens is a complete trilogy of Victorian romances, I’ve always thought of these books as something more than three separate love stories. They’re the beginning of a family saga—the point where three women who were never supposed to be sisters find one another and create the family whose story continues into the next generation.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so pleased to finally have all three books collected together in the new Scandalous Sirens Omnibus. They belong together. If you’ve already read Scandalous Scions but have never gone back to meet the women who started it all, here’s your chance to discover the first generation.

And if you’ve never met any of them?

This is where the family begins.
