Camlann Is Here…and Suddenly, It’s the End

Today, Camlann, the twelfth and final novel in the Once and Future Hearts series, arrives in bookstores everywhere.

I’ve known this day was coming for years. I just didn’t entirely believe it would ever get here.

Writing a long series is a strange experience. You don’t simply write books—you live with people. Their voices become familiar. Their triumphs and disasters become part of your own mental landscape. You spend years asking “What happens next?” until one day there isn’t a next anymore.

There’s simply…

The End.

That has left me feeling equal parts delighted, proud, relieved, and just a little bereft.

One of the oddest things about this journey is that the author’s note at the end of Camlann—the one that looks back over the entire series—is actually one of the oldest pieces of writing in the project. Not because I wrote it years ago with a keyboard. I didn’t.

I wrote it in my head.

For twelve novels and a novella, that note sat there, quietly evolving as I worked through every twist, every romance, every battle, every sacrifice, every unexpected discovery. I rehearsed it countless times without ever typing a word.

Only when I reached the final page of Camlann would I finally let myself write it down.

That felt strangely fitting.

King Arthur’s legend has survived for more than fifteen centuries because every generation finds something new within it. My hope has always been that Once and Future Hearts would add one more thread to that tapestry—a story about love, loyalty, sacrifice, hope, and the people who choose each other even when history is pulling them apart.

Thank you to everyone who has travelled this road with me. Whether you’ve been here since Born of No Man first appeared or discovered the series only recently, you’ve made this journey far richer than I could ever have imagined.

  1. I have been with this series since the very beginning, lucky me! I was hooked with your way of making the Arthurian tales even more interesting. All the love, hope, joy, and of course betrayal is here in this series. Thank you from a very grateful reader.
