Today, in the United States, is National All or Nothing Day. The official idea behind it is simple enough: stop dithering. Stop endlessly thinking about the thing you want to do. Either commit to it wholeheartedly, or decide it isn’t worth your time and let it go.
It’s not a bad philosophy for a Sunday.
But when I first saw the name of the observance, my brain didn’t go where the organizers intended. It immediately went here:
All my books or none of them.
I suspect that’s because writers have peculiar minds.
Readers often ask me where they should start. Or they’ll tell me they’ve read one series and wonder what to pick up next. Every now and then someone confesses they’re trying to read everything I’ve ever written.
That made me stop and think.
Besides me—and yes, I have read them all more than once—there is only one reader I know personally who has acquired every single one of my books. Every romance, every science fiction novel under Cameron Cooper, every fantasy under Taylen Carver, every collection, every oddball title, every series.
I’m not going to embarrass them by sharing their name. They know who they are.
But it does make me wonder. Is there anyone else out there? Have you actually read—or even just collected—every single one?
Considering there are more than two hundred titles now, that’s either an impressive achievement or evidence of questionable judgment. Perhaps both.
It isn’t a challenge. Good grief, I don’t expect anyone to race out and buy dozens of books just to tick a box. Although to be honest, that is exactly what I would do. When I find an author I love, I can’t rest until I’ve found and read everything they’ve ever written. Including all the short stories. However, I’m possibly strange, that way. And I don’t expect anyone else to do it. Reading should never feel like homework. I’m simply curious.
As writers, we spend years building worlds, creating characters, and writing series that connect to other series. We know every corner of that universe because we built it one story at a time. Readers usually wander through just the parts that appeal to them, and that’s exactly as it should be.
But every so often someone decides to explore the entire landscape. Those readers fascinate me. So here’s my National All or Nothing Day question:
