You may have heard about the wildfire burning in Alberta, Canada. You may not have realized it’s only four hours north of where I live. Most of the refugees are landing here in Edmonton, and many people I know are spontaneously helping out in whatever way they can. One of the most heartbreaking things about the fire is the many pets that got left behind. There are rescue efforts for the pets already underway, but for some of them, it’s too late.
I’ve been watching all the news reports and many of them speak of the size of the fire in awe, but that doesn’t really give you a sense of just how big it is. However, Canada’s news magazine, MacLean’s, ran a post a couple of days ago where they superimposed the area of the wildfire over various maps, including New York city.
There’s also a map of the Washington DC area.
It’s sobering to look at the sheer size of the fire.
I hope you’re safe, wherever you are. Hug your kin and count your blessings.

Just checked my former home, DC. We’d be wiped out, White House, Capitol, Washington Monument, nearly to my home in the upper northern suburbs (5 minutes outside of DC. It’s is a sad but true fact about our furry friends. Prayers going out to all affected by this terrible occurrence.
Scary, huh?
