It might have been a nice birthday for Hugo, had the 85th Oscars played out just a little differently a few days ago, but Argo beat Les Miserable out for best picture, instead.
Still, Victor Hugo remains one of France’s biggest literary exports. Abroad, his two most famous works are Les Mis, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Whereas in France he is more famous for his poetry, and his political work — he began life as a stout royalist, and became a dedicated Republican.
It is staggering the number of creatives — authors and actors, painters and etc., who have birthdays in and around February and March. Check out the IMDB.com for a rundown.
