Women and Children First.

eva titanicThis is the 102nd anniversary of the day the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank. For seventy years they couldn’t find the wreckage, but it was discovered off the coast of Newfoundland in 1985.

Thanks to movies like Titanic, the Titanic is the most famous ship in history. I suspect that is because the events surrounding its sinking were a perfect encapsulation of the era, and of values that have long gone in the post-modern world.   The “women and children first” idea is a perfect example. First class and steerage—the segregated class society and the invincibility and complacency they had that their world would go on endlessly….

It’s a good reminder to us all that nothing is invincible, and nothing lasts forever.

BTW, I managed to sneak the Titanic into one of my books. Eva’s Last Dance begins way back in 1914. Check the cover out->
