Meet Kristina!

_________

Robin and WillWho are your favourite authors?

Gosh, there are so many! I love the way Nora Roberts works a characters, Liz Flaherty has a gift at setting the scene, Jayne Ann Krentz keeps me on the edge of my seat and Jane Porter gives me all the feels…there are more, but those are a few.

What is your favourite novel cover?

Of my own … I love them all for various reasons, but I think the cover for First Love Again (releasing in November 2015) is my favorite. The sailboat, the way the characters look at one another..the cover artists really captured a moment.

What’s the best Hero Moment you’ve ever seen in film?

This is going back a little bit, but I love that scene in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves after the Sheriff has attacked the camp. Robin & the survivors are burying the dead when Will comes. He’s been sent to spy, and he desperately wants to believe in Robin, but can’t get over their father abandoning him because of Robin. When Robin says, “I have a brother,” …. gah! All. The. Feels.

What’s the best Hero Moment you’ve ever read in a book?

I have to pick just one?? Ummm…in Nicole Helm’s Too Close To Resist there is a moment when Kyle goes back to where he came from that is incredibly powerful..that one is in my top 10.

What reading device do you use for reading ebooks on?

I have a Kindle Paperwhite as well as the Kindle app on my iPad…I read on them both equally.

What is your take on the indie author phenomenon?  What do you think the book industry will look like in five years’ time?

I think it’s great! There are a ton of great books out there that for whatever reason New York publishers didn’t pick up on; indie authors brought them to the people. I think it’s great. I have no idea what the industry will look like in 5 months let alone 5 years! I don’t think Indie authors are going anywhere, I don’t think NY is going anywhere…it’s a crazy time to be in this business.

Do you ever skip the “I love you!” scene in your novels?  Do you feel you’ve been cheated if they’re missing in other authors’ books?

There has always been an ‘I love you’ moment in my books, but there doesn’t have to be, I don’t think. One of the best books I’ve read didn’t include an ‘I love you’ (the hero was a playboy with a horrible childhood). He’d never experienced love outside the heroine, so it would have felt forced for him to go on about his undying love to her. At the same time, as a reader, you know it’s love he’s feeling and experiencing and you know the words will come.

What’s your take on eBook piracy?  What would you do about it if you were given carte blanche?

I think eBook pirates should be held accountable for their actions; they are stealing. It may only be the cost of an under-$5 book, but all those $5 books add up to massive amounts of money that aren’t being paid to the authors, publishers and copyright holders. Their excuses are always, ‘but I can’t afford to pay for a book’ or ‘authors are rich anyway, they don’t need my money’…If a pirate can’t afford to pay for a book, borrow from the library…and as for the rich-anyway excuse, no. Just. No.

If someone offered you immortality, but you could never write again…would you take the offer?

No. There are a lot of things I want to experience and places I want to see, but immortality without being able to do this thing I love or being able to be with the people I love would be torture.

What do you want your epitaph to read, at the end of your life?

Love Is Everything

What are you currently reading?  How’s that going for you?

I’m finally reading Nora Roberts’ The Liar…and I stayed up way too late last night. She’s got me hooked!

What will you be reading next?

I haven’t decided…there are about 200 books on my Kindle that are calling my name. We’ll see what mood strikes.

Call MeThe Anthem series follows Nate, Chase and Josh from the band Anthem as they find love with three feisty females: Lily, Nina and Kat. I adore music and have wanted to write a musician hero for a while…Nate was first, but Chase and Josh convinced me I had a little more work to do. So, the one story became three.

Call Me – Book 3 of the Anthem series:

Katrina Phillips is itchy. The job that has always challenged her seems stifling, her friends are all pairing off and she’s been without male companionship for seven long months.

Josh Hanna is paying off a debt: fly to LA, play backup for the house band during the season finale of Star Power and then back to his boring – and sober – life in San Francisco.

But five years hasn’t been long enough to douse the flames between them, and its hard to remember why things went so badly in the first place…

Book excerpt

“Hello, Josh,” she said, echoing his tone from a few minutes before.

He blinked and then sat up straight. “What the hell are you doing in my car, Kat?” His smooth baritone slid over her senses and, just like that, she was pulling herself back from the abyss she’d been in five years before. This was just a one-night stand. Nothing to get excited about.

Okay, one thing to get excited about. He knew all her secret places. She knew how to push him to the edge. And in the past few years, they’d probably both learned a few new things.

“What do you think I’m doing here?” she countered, crossing her legs and spreading her arms over the back of the seat. “You practically invited me.”

The car began moving. Well, at least he hadn’t kicked her out of the limo.

“I said hello.”

“You told me not to leave on your account.”

“And then you did.”

“I thought you might want a little more privacy.” She slid across the side bench to Josh’s seat, bent her leg to sit sideways and rested her head against her elbow. “This is pretty private, I’d say.”

He watched her for a long moment. “You’re here for sex.”

Kat nodded. “I don’t usually go for casual, but since we have a history, this isn’t your typical one-night stand.”

“This isn’t what I expected when I came down here tonight.”

“This isn’t what I expected when I showed up for work tonight.” She reached out to trace her finger along his jaw. That contact zinged along her nerve endings straight to the butterflies flapping around in her belly, electrifying their beat.

“I’m headed straight to the airport.” He leaned toward her.

“LA traffic’s a bitch no matter what time of day it is.”

“You’re not the girl I remember.” This time he reached for her, his hand drawing a path of fire down her arm. “The girl I remember—”

She cut him off before he could get started on the girl she used to be. The girl who was of so little importance he felt no qualms about walking away from without a single word. Well, she’d grown up since then. Had other relationships. Sure, none of them as serious or deep as what she thought she’d had with him.

But then, she’d never really had him, had she?
