My Life – August 19, 2013

Kate, Halls Head, Aug 8, 2013 - smallI’m still in Australia, although we only have a few hours left before we get on the plane and head back to Canada.  It’s been a very quiet visit, although as my daughter, Kate, left Australia when she was five and can’t remember anything of the country, we have managed to do a little touring, just to show her the highlights.  Strangely, she flatly refuses to try Vegemite.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAKate clearly has my genes:  She fell in love with the beach within five minutes of stepping onto the first one.  It’s winter here, which means the temperatures are exactly the same as we are getting back home in Edmonton…for summer.  So we went paddling in the surf.  We had to drag Kate back to the car after that.

We also visited a petting zoo, and Kate got to meet her first kangaroos and the native birdlife.Kate Feeding Kangaroos

I haven’t written anything while I’m here.  I’m not sure what that will do for the release dates.  I still have a few days up my sleeve, so we’ll have to see.  We have a slow-as-molasses-in-January internet connection, which makes it next to impossible to do anything on-line.  I’m not sure how I’m going to get this post up and scheduled, as my blog is still loading…and has been all the time I’ve been writing this.

Kate in the AviaryI think I’ll have to find a free wifi connection somewhere in the town and buy a coffee.

My next update will be when I get back to Canada.

  1. While you’ve been down under, I’ve been up here in Northern Minnesota. The weather is a far cry from my nice warm southwest Florida. I too went to the beach, but wouldn’t even think of touching that ice cold water. Sat with the beach towel curled around me. Have a safe and peaceful trip home.

    1. Thanks, Robyn:

We get on the plane for home in a little over 14 hours. It’s been interesting here, catching up with family, some of whom I haven’t seen for twenty years.

But we will miss the beach big time.

      1. I too have had great fun reconnecting with family and former classmates. I have seen so many people and renewed so many friendships I will be very sad when I leave next Sunday. Take care now and get some rest on that really really very long flight home. Maybe you’ll have a chance to vacation for real the next time you visit down under..
