I have to ask, how is this a sci-fi read?

Tricky to answer without sounding off, Dina. Fact is, the categories are polluted by books that authors tag incorrectly, somtimes deliberately and sometimes through ignorance.

There’s a lot of paranormal and fantasy books in the SFR category. Space Opera is nearly all military SF. Victorican historical romance is stuffed with Regencies.

Romantic suspense has books from nearly every other romance sub-genre in it, which is why it is so bloated and actual RS gets lost because it’s not showing on the top 100.

It is a problem for both readers and authors, but it has a plus side. When you cruise through the top 100 of your favourite genre, you’ll get to see books that aren’t quite that genre, and thereby find a new-to-you series and author, that you wouldn’t have found otherwise.

So trawling the best seller lists is a nice adventure.
