Time Travel Romances…Where Did They All Get To?
Smart Bitches raised a good point this morning…where did all the time travel romances get to, exactly? I haven’t see a damn good time travel romance in…must be a good couple of years, if not five years or more.
Which made me pause to consider another question more specific to my own tiny corner of romanceland. You don’t see time travels in erotic romance all that often. There’s probably barriers enough to overcome between a male and a female in an erotic historical novel, if they’re to have smashing sex, without piling contemporary disorientation issues into the mix. Make the heroine the traveller, and you can see the issues compounding by the second. Heroes of the past weren’t exactly refined and considerate, for all we like to paint ‘em so in the romance novels.
Still, it would make an interesting challenge. I’ve yet to write an historical novel that I haven’t been able to slip at least one famous (mythical or otherwise) character between the covers. Can you image what the heroine might make of meeting, say, Casanova?
Hmmm…
What’s the best time travel romance you’ve ever read? And why?

Well, I have always loved the time travel ones! I’ve written one (currently trying to publish) and working on a second one… Unfortunately, I’m coming up with a bunch of “no thanks,” from agents. Since they aren’t giving out much info in their form letters, its hard to figure out why exactly they’re saying no thanks… I’ll keep writing them though ;)
My fave will always be Outlander.. and then Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series.
Great topic (and close to home for me right now!)
I think these days editors are so focused on paranormal its hard to sell historicals. They’re just not looking for them. But if you keep persisting, you’ll eventually get your foot in the door, theoretically.
