Jump To Part 4: Other Way To Keep Up With Ellora’s Cave
Now that you’ve eased your way into the Cave and learned to like it here, you’ll want to keep up with all the news and gossip.
As you’ll quickly learn, the sense of community in the Cave is very strong. There’s quite a few ways of staying on top of what’s hot and happening.
Lady Jaided
Lady Jaided is the Ellora’s Cave magazine, especially for readers, with special features, eye candy, contests, author interviews, a Metaphysical cafe, and something called The Buzz, which you’ll have to experience for yourself to understand. The magazine draws heavily from Ellora’s Cave authors, naturally, and is edited by Jaid Black herself, of course.
Lady Jaided’s Sex Talk for Wicked Woman
Lady Jaided’s blog for conversations with women who refuse to behave. This is the blogging arm of the Lady Jaided magazine, that also ties in with Ellora’s cave.
EC Readers List on Yahoo
For readers, this Yahoo email group is probably the single best source of intelligence on all things Ellora’s cave. But it can be a busy place at times. I checked just now and there’s 3,620 people subscribed, and the noise to content signal can get high at times. But don’t let that stop you from subscribing. It isn’t always a shouting match in there, and if anything is happening in the Cave, you’ll hear it on this list first.
Oh, and a small hint: When you subscribe, it can take up to three days for the first messages to start filtering through to your email, because of how many subscribers are on the list and how much traffic Yahoo is handling on that list. Be patient. It’ll kick in. So when you go on vacation or long weekends, don’t unsub. Just go no-mail for the duration.
Redlines and Deadlines
Redlines and Deadlines is the Ellora’s Cave blog written by all its editors. It’s not specifically about writing and editing, although it can be. There’s some interesting posts, so even if you’re not specifically interested in writing or editing, you might find it interesting to visit and catch up with the posts there every now and again. If EC is having a busy period the posts will fall away.
EC Author blogs & websites
Every time you find a book you like on Ellora’s Cave, go back to the buy page and click on the author’s website link (listed just under their name). The chances are pretty damn good the author has either got a newsletter or a blog (which has an RSS feed), or both, that you can subscribe to. This will let you keep up with your new favourite author’s latest titles as they come out.
RomantiCon
The most fun — and the most expensive — for last. RomantiCon was so successful in October that Ellora’s Cave have decided it will be an annual event from now on. Next year will be bigger and better, I know it. RomantiCon is Ellora’s Cave’s very own reader’s convention, and if you love Ellora’s Cave books, then attending the convention gives you three days of freebies, panels, parties, meeting the authors and partying with the cover models, meeting other EC readers, EC staff and executives and generally absorbing the atmosphere and and attitudes of the Cave.
There’s two ways to stay abreast of events for this one. You can check back on the RomantiCon website on a regular basis. This site is constantly changing as the conference planning goes ahead. I know that registration opens sometime this month (November), for the 2010 conference, for instance, so the site will change to reflect that.
The second way to stay plugged in is to join the Yahoo Groups email discussion list. Here, authors, readers and EC staff talk about the upcoming conference, what they’re going to wear, and who is going to do what to whom, pay-back, and more. There’s usually more serious planning discussed in between the free-for-all. Room-mates, travel arrangements, airport transport and so-forth can also be arranged on this list.

Great fun facts for all the newbies, Tracy. The only one I have trouble with is Lady Jaided. The website is partially covered by info on the columns, and I can’t read whats underneath.
Thanks for letting me know, Cathy. I’ll pass that one along.
