Hero Moment of The Week: The Hero That Didn't Get The Girl – Andrew Lincoln in Love Actually
I pulled this movie out the other day because I kept thinking of Bill Nighy singing that god-awful rendition of Love is All Around in that terrible British accent, and the Christmas theme that ran through the movie, and thought it was the perfect time to watch it, as I hadn’t seen it for the longest time and well, it’s Christmas.
But I had forgotten about one of the loveliest little non-romances in there. I have a little straw poll I’ve been casually conducting amongst friends ever since the movie came out. “What’s your favourite part?” There’s a dozen different tales in that movies, all interconnected in one way or another, and often the answer is “The Collin!” or the two stand-ins at the porn shoot, or Liam Neeson’s story… I don’t think it has ever been the Keira Knightly one.
The Keira Knightly/Andrew Lincoln romance happens to be my favourite simply because of the agony Andrew Lincoln manages to exude in the perhaps ten minute he’s on the screen. It’s not a huge part, but he plays it for all he’s worth. And he doesn’t get the girl.
So I thought I’d award him a Hero Moment just because he manages to catch my attention every time I play the movie, and because of it, I’m on the look out for anything he’s in, just to see what sort of range he’s got.

Thanks for the recommendation, Tracy. This sounds like a perfect Christmas vacation rental.
It’s the right time of year to watch it, that’s for sure, Cathy. And it’s a great movie. If you liked Notting Hill, you’ll like this one, it’s written and directed by the same guy, and also stars Hugh Grant.
