Eileen Ann Brennan Dances With Us Today – Chat Back to Win.
Today we have another Dance of Desire author, Eileen Ann Brennan, who is talking about her Ellora’s Cave book, Waltz Me Through Time.
Thanks to Eileen’s generosity, today you have a chance to win either a copy of Waltz Me Through Time or one of Eileen’s other books (check her collection on Ellora’s Cave), just by commenting. Contest closes at midnight, Wednesday February 10th.
So let’s talk to Eileen.
__________
Who are your favourite authors at Ellora’s Cave?
Aside from you, Dee Brice (my BFF at last year’s RT) Lynne Connolly, Trista Ann Michaels and Barbara Elsborg are among my favorites.
What is your favourite novel cover (can be from anywhere)?
I know I’m probably being politically incorrect but I love the cheesy bodice ripper covers of the 70s and 80s. Fabio’s hair waving in the wind, the heroine’s heaving bosom, the exotic background – you just knew your heart would be aflutter by page two.
What’s the best Hero Moment you’ve ever seen in film?
Wow, there are so many that come to mind but since I recently watched The Untouchables I keep thinking of that scene in Grand Central Station with the lady and the baby carriage. You can see how much the hero, Elliot Ness, wants to call off the whole apprehension thing and rescue the lady but he can’t so he risks everything to get her out of harms way. It’s also one of the best nail-biting scenes ever.
What’s the best Hero Moment you’ve ever read in a book?
Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard. The heroine is almost raped and is sitting with some townswomen. She’s bruised and broken. Everyone is positive the hero is guilty. He walks in, checks out the heroine’s injuries (You can just see the flames shooting out of his eyes!) and tells her he has to go get the man who did this. Then he just walks out. Wow!
What reading device do you use for reading ebooks on?
I still use my trusty computer with the super wide monitor. I like big the text but would like something a little more mobile. Guess it’s time to start investigating eReaders.
Your favourite romantic suspense author?
Linda Howard. She keeps the heat on high and the suspense on the edge. I loved her book Open Season. The hero and heroine are so unlikely and different that they’re absolutely perfect together.
Your favourite historical romance author?
Gail Ranstrom and her ‘Wednesday League’ series. I love how the different characters pop up in each others’ books. Her mysteries frequently show a darker, steamier side of Regency England and she has a wonderful historical voice that puts you right in the era.
Your favourite historical era? (extra credit for telling us why)
I’m a sucker for the American Revolution and colonial times. It’s not exactly a popular era for romance but I love it. As to why? When I was growing up history was a dinner table topic. We used to discuss battles, strategies, and historical figures came to life.
Your favourite contemporary romance author(s)?
Brenda Novak. Her characters come alive on the page and you can always count on a good twist in the story.
If someone offered you immortality, but you could never write again…would you take the offer?
Wow. This is a tough question. I’d need a little more info before I’d commit to an answer. 1. Could I go back and have the body I had at twenty? 2. Can I keep the life experiences I’ve had up until now? 3. And this one is pretty important…Would I get to spend eternity with Vampire Eric or Vampire Bill from True Blood?
If all of these were ‘yes’, hmm, I’d still have to think about it.
What do you want your epitaph to read, at the end of your life?
She really lived.
What are you currently reading?
I’m working my way through my RWA Rita entries (and thoroughly enjoying these authors I’ve not read before) Between those, I’m re-reading Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Being a Jersey girl myself, I identify with the attitudes and characters. They’re laugh out loud funny.
What will you be reading next?
I’ll be gnawing at my restraints until May 11th when Fever Dream, the next in the Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, is released. It’s not romance but the twists and surprises in their books keep me reading way after I should have turned out the light. Until then, I have several Ellora’s Cave anthologies I’ve been dying to get to.
The Desiree Staccato
In honour of Desiree Holt who started this Saturday Night Live style tradition:
- Favourite colour? Blue
- Favourite drink? Chardonnay
- Favourite writing outfit? Shorts and T-shirt
- Favourite food(s)? Pizza or anything Italian, oh and when I splurge – Veal Oscar yum!
- Favourite music? Classic Rock (Springsteen, Clapton) and mellow stuff (Jim Brickman, Josh Groban, Michael Buble) But I mainly write to movie soundtracks or classical. I get too distracted if there is any singing while I write.
- Favourite sport? Football (as in NFL – we’ve been season ticket holders for 15 years)
- Favourite body part? On men – The behiney. Maybe that’s why I love football so much. 22 guys…crouched over…yum!
- Favourite spot in the world? If we’re talking cities, it would be a tough call between Manhattan and Washington DC. I love them both. If we’re talking little spots, it would be in my house in my office.
- Favourite movie? Wall-e There is just something about the innocence, sincerity and determination of that little guy that I fell in love with. I keep watching it over and over.
- Favourite TV show? I love watching Castle and Mark Harmon in NCIS but I think my heart belongs to Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. Every guy I dated in high school was related to Sheldon.
- Favourite flower? Nothing exotic, I simply love roses of any color!
- Favourite thing to do at knock-off time? Sudoku, read, watch The Weather Channel…
Tell us about your book.
Waltz Me Through Time is (amazingly enough) a time travel erotic romance. Juliana Douglas leads the perfect life in her little antique shop. Business is good and her boyfriend is sure to propose any day now. Everything is wonderful until she buys a mysterious second hand steamer trunk.
And an excerpt – (PG 13 if possible)
It was a bit of a challenge to keep it PG 13 and not reveal the plot twists, but I hope your readers enjoy this little excerpt.
Can I help you with something?” asked Juliana, eying the man covered with tattoos.
“Yeah. I was wondering if you’d buy this here trunk.”
She ran her hand across the fine oak slats and fingered the brass latch. An intense yearning, bordering on longing, welled up inside her. She had to have it. A handsome piece, large enough to use as a coffee table and it would be great for storage. She could probably move it within a week or so. That is, if she could bear to part with it.
“I might be. How much are you asking for it?”
He gave her a price, a little on the low side of what she thought it might be worth but who was she to argue? If that’s what the man wanted…
“Do you have the key?”
“Nah. That’s why I’m willin’ to let it go fer so cheap. There’s stuff rattlin’ around inside but it’s just a bunch o’ old useless junk.”
Hmm. Why was he in a hurry to get rid of it, especially without checking what was inside? Was it not his to sell? “Where did you get it?” she asked, hoping her suspicions didn’t come through in her tone.
“I’m cleanin’ out my auntie’s attic. She lives down the street a piece.” He pointed in some obscure direction. “We’re puttin’ her in a nursin’ home. Loosin’ her marbles, ya know?” He twirled his index finger next to his temple. “This here’s been sittin’ in the attic long’s I can remember. We gotta git her moved by tomorra and none in the family wants it so we’re thinkin’ of makin’ some money on it.”
That sounded reasonable. She glanced at the lock again. Maybe something from her collection of lost keys would fit the lock. It wasn’t unheard of for trunks and suitcases to have standardized locks. It didn’t matter. She had to have this trunk. It was a work of art. “Okay. You’ve got a deal. I’ll be right back.” She went to her office and quickly returned with a check for the requested amount before he changed his mind. “If you have anything else you want to get rid of keep me in mind.”
The man shoved the check into his jeans pocket and nodded. “Will do.” He was through the door and down the block before she had a chance to thank him.

Hi Tracy and thanks so much for having me here today! I’m looking forward to our day together!
You’re welcome, Eileen.
I was interested to see you’re easing into e-readers. Have you actually looked at any particular models or are you still at the “just thinking about it” stage?
Tracy
I love discovering the secrets behind the name on the cover. Thanks for sharing about yourself, Eileen, and your book. I can’t wait to read it!
Eileen. Great Job. Congrats on Release Day. Loved the Blog. Sorry this sounds a bit like a telegram. stop! lol
Eden
I’m still in the Thinking About It stage. There seem to be several nice ones but I’m wondering if this is similar to the VHS vs. BETA situation where one will eventually prevail and be the winner.
Hi Maria and Eden!
Thanks for stopping by. I hope I didn’t give out too many secrets :) I appriciate your comments!
Eileen! Thanks for the kind words about my books. I only wish I could write love scenes as well as you. Wow!
I know what you mean by researching e-readers. My sister was given a Sony E-reader for Christmas and she loves it. She let me play with it a bit, and now I covet it in the worst way. The prices are coming down a bit, too. I’ve heard really good things about the new Apple i-reader, but not sure what the cost is. Technology is changing so fast it’s hard to keep up.
Well, off to buy my copy of Waltz Me Through Time….
Hi Eileen Ann…..I love this book….great job.
I enjoyed the interview and the excerpt. I look forward in reading your works.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for stopping by Tracey! I hope you enjoy the stories!
Hi Tierney! So glad you enjoyed the book!
Hi Gail!
Thanks for the heads up on the Sony e-reader. I’ll check it out. I was real impressed with the news releases on that Apple iPad, too. If it’s anything like the iPhone, it should be really cool.
So, when is the next Wednesday League going to be released??? :)
Great interview! And I love your answer to immortality. I agree with your stipulations (except I’d definitely need Eric, not a Bill fan), especially wanting my younger body. As I’m almost forty, I notice alot more aches and pains then I used to.
Your new book sounds great so I’m really hoping to win it!
HI Joder!
you know, it’s funny. When I mention those two vamps, people go for either one or the other – never both. Kinda makes me wonder what the big difference is :)
BTW, I love your kitty avatar! I have three and one, Pookie, sits with me all day while I write.
The next book, newly titled A RAKE BY MIDNIGHT, is tentatively scheduled for September release. Should firm that up in the next month.
What’s in the works for you?
Ohhh, I’ll have my nose pressed against the window waiting!
Right now, I’m working on two historicals. AVENGED is the third in my medieval Le Monte Dynasty Series and Sara’s Anatomy is Regency based…and yes, the love scene are pretty hot :)
The interview was hysterical! It is nice to see an author with character. It is rare to find one who is down to earh!
Hurray!!! I’ve been waiting for the Regency-set for a long time. Now THAT’S going to be a best seller. And the LeMontes, ahh. Who wouldn’t love those guys? The first two were super. Are they still available?
Hi Theresa Marie!
Thanks for the sweet comments! I’m not sure how down to earth I am. According to my family, my head is usually in the clouds!
You’re too nice, Gail!
The first draft of the Regency will be done (if I have to super-glue my behiney to the chair!) by next week. The Le Montes are still available from Liquid Silver Books and I hope to have AVENGED completed in the spring (How’s that for a non-committal date? :)
Great blog, Eileen! Great new cover and happy book release day!
Eileen, I love that scene in MacKenzie’s Mountain! Wolf MacKenzie and Mary Elizabeth are such great characters. And Open Seaon…I even got my husband to read it and he loved it.
I love the book cover to Waltz Me Through Time and I found the excerpt. I am looking forward to reading this time travel story. Its intriguing because I love to ballroom dance and time-travel stories are one of my favorite romance themes.
Congratulations on your release!!
It’s so great to meet another Linda Howard fan! How fantastic is it that your husband liked her too!
I got the idea for this story from a ballroom dancing painting called Dance Me to the End of Time by Jack Vettriano. It just seemed to all fall into place. Drop me a line (eileenann.brennan@gmail.com) I’d love to hear what you think of the story.
Tracy, thank you so very much for this fun day! It’s beddy-bey time here on the East coast so I’ll wish you and your lovely readers a good night.
I’ll be back tomorrow with my incredibly scientific method of deciding the winner of their choice of any one of my books (I write everyone’s name on a piece of paper, toss them on the floor and the first one Pookie steps on is the winner) Wouldn’t it be great if they did the lottery this way?
Anyway, again, thank you for having me be a part of the Dance of Desire blog!
Hugs,
eab
And the winner of a copy of an ebook is (drum roll please)
Joder!
Please email me at eileenann.brennan@gmail.com so I can get your email address and let me know which one you would like and in what format. You can find a complete list on my website.
Congratulations! And again, thanks to Tracy for the opportunity to blog and to everyone who joined me!
Hugs,
eab
What a fun interview. Eternal life or writing…what a choice! Waltz Me Through Time sounds like a great read and my kind of story. I haven’t read any of your books yet, Eileen, but Barbara Elsborg who you mentioned as a favorite author is also one of mine.
Congrats to Joder for being the winner.
Thanks for stopping by Laurie! I met Barbara at last years RT Convention and had a great time hanging out with her. Love her stuff!
