Outline
Lindsay is determined to outshine her mother’s illustrious career. As head of marketing for the exclusive Freeman Hotel, in the rarefied mountains of northern Washington, Lindsay grapples with her rival — the charming newcomer, Lucifer Furey Pierse.
No one knows much about Luke except that he could turn murder into a comedy routine, that he likes classy women and is oddly drawn to the prickly, definitely not-interested Lindsay.
It starts with a bet that goes horribly wrong. If Lyndsay wins, then Luke leaves town—forever. If Luke wins, he gets a date with Lyndsay. But when Luke wins and Lindsay is forced to pay the price, she learns more about Lucifer Furey Pierse than she thought existed…and the date kick-starts a bitter-sweet journey as they learn why they are the people they have become.
Then life hands them an unexpected twist they must deal with…one that tests both of them to limits.
Reviews
For the original edition:
Ms. Cooper-Posey has done it again!
Lucifer’s Lover is an emotionally vested romance between two people who think they know what they want. Fact is they truly have no clue until fate forces them to face them to take a cold hard look at what’s important. Lyndsay and Luke are exceptionally drawn characters. Ms. Cooper-Posey is a master at creating characters a reader will truly care about. She’s not afraid to create a lead character that’s not “perfect” in every way. Both Lyndsay and Luke have their own share of emotional baggage that has gone a long way into forming the adults they’ve become. The conflict between Lyndsay and Luke is not only believable but also entertaining. As a result the reader is treated to a well-choreographed dance between two people looking for love, acceptance, and a happy ending. Ms. Cooper-Posey writes with heart and is a gift to the writing industry.

_____
Lucifer’s Lover had me breathless from the first page as I felt the sparks fly between Lindsay and Luke that would ultimately end in an undeniable love that would stand all their insecurities and fears. Tracy Cooper-Posey brings her reader a heart searching tale between two lovers who are forced to face the scars of their past as they succumb to the love that cannot be denied. You will not want to miss this tale that will have your crying with the characters as they face their hurt and rejoicing when they finally accept what their love has to offer.

Lucifer’s Lover is a wonderful read. It was fun watching the two in their daily banter. The morning after when he meets her father at breakfast, that was an unforgettable scene. Ms. Cooper-Posey has written such a charming story about two people who are so in tune with each other but afraid to release what their hearts store. I could not help but fall in love with this well-written story and the characters on their path to self-discovery and the makings of a real family life. Ms. Cooper-Posey touches the heart and makes you feel everything, and that is why I rate it 5 cups.

The ending is so real-life, the arguments, the words and actions draws the reader into the characters lives and you’re left feeling as though you’ve experienced the entire thing yourself. There are many powerful scenes as Luke and Lyndsay learn to open up their lives to one another. Ms. Cooper-Posey’s Lucifer’s Lover is a charming mix of humor and heat, such that I personally can’t wait to pick up another of her novels.

_____
Lucifer’s Lover is an obsessively enchanting tale of a battle of wills that turns into a life changing romance. With strong, well-defined characters and a storyline that reaches into your imagination, I relished reading Lucifer’s Lover from start to finish. If you love your characters with a bit of gumption and a whole lot of personality then this is one you cannot pass up.

For the BETTING WITH LUCIFER edition
Lucifer Furey Pierse is definitely rightly named in this book. As a child his father hated him and always reminded him he was like the devil. He always brings heartache, pain and destroys people’s lives. Coming to work at the same hotel Lindsay directs in marketing was a way to get to know her. The thing is for the past couple of months he wants more than just a working relationship with her. When he thought of the prize for the bet he never expected Lindsay to agree on it. Although once he set the wheels going he wants more than just a bet now. Can he convince Lindsay that he is not after her job but instead her heart?
Betting with Lucifer was a unique and comedic story of two people who so need each other and it’s funny how they keep denying the attraction. The working relationship between them is typical yet you can tell right away the sexual chemistry is there. Tracey Cooper-Posey did a good job in the story line about lies. She deftly writes in sometime hidden secrets between her characters. This is definitely one of those books that is so like life yet Tracey has a way of making the story romantic in a way you never expected it to happen. Loved it.

“I can’t highlight what I liked most about the story, because I loved everything about it. From the introduction of Lindsay at the meeting, all the way to the HEA, Tracy Cooper-Posey made me feel everything that Lindsay and Luke felt…This story really had the feel of an old-school Linda Howard romance. That’s the style of books that hooked me on this genre almost 20 years ago and they are the ones that I go back to time and again…Betting with Lucifer is easily one of my favorite reads of this year. It’s going on the keeper shelf (virtual shelf, that is) and I’m sure it will get many rereads in the future.”

“Tracy Cooper-Posey has a flair for writing her characters deep, and by this I mean she knows how to play her characters who all have different, layered personalities that just leap from the page with their own very emotional stories to tell. This is what makes her books so realistic and a treasure to read. Add great dialogue, an intriguing plot with several twists and turns, and it all makes for a speedy, thought-provoking tale of two people trying to make the best of their emotionally scarred lives. They have a lot to contend with before they can even commit to one another. The author pushed me to the edge of frustration, irritation and exasperation and then brought me back to a satisfying end. One I won’t forget in a hurry, that’s for sure. A really enjoyable old fashioned romance, but with the contemporary setting of the modern day workaholic world. With this book I rode the emotional roller coaster, and if romance is your thing, I am positive you will, too. Written from the heart.”

Lindsay hit the lobby button with a vicious jab, hoping the doors would slide shut before Luke could disentangle himself from Vince’s farewell. Miraculously the doors began to slide shut. At the last minute, Luke’s shirt-sleeved arm chopped down between the closing doors and they bounced harmlessly back again.
He stepped into the lift and shot a glance at Lindsay.
His shirt sleeves were still carelessly rolled up almost to his elbows, showing off tanned forearms and strong wrists.
His clothes were never quite right, she realized. Oh, he wore the latest suits and the trendiest ties and shirts but it was the way he wore them. Nearly always the tie was loosened and the collar button undone. Often, he pushed the jacket sleeves up, or he would strip off the jacket and roll his shirt sleeves up, like now. And he would lounge against the edge of people’s desks, his hands in his pockets. It was as if he was donning the high-powered account executive’s uniform but refusing to take it seriously.
She sighed. Well, she only had to put up with his presence for ten more floors. It wouldn’t kill her.
But her heart was racing along unhappily. She remained silent, hoping Luke would take the hint.
“She won,” he said quietly.
“Who?”
“My aunt. She won.”
“How nice for her.”
Eight…seven…come on, Lindsay mentally encouraged the creeping light.
“This bet is bothering you, isn’t it?”
“The bet?” she inquired airily. “Not at all.”
Five…four…
“That’s why you’re going home early. You’re worried you might lose, after all.”
Worried? She spun to face him. “You’d be the last person I’d tell if I were worried!”
His hand hit the panel of lights, slamming down over the emergency stop button.
“That’s exactly what the bet is about,” he said, his voice flat, forceful.
She looked at the panel with the bright red LED display flashing its alarm. “What are you doing?” she demanded. “You can’t just halt an elevator like that. They’ll penalize you, or charge you or something. I don’t know what the penalty is for unlawfully halting an elevator but if it’s anything like stopping a train—”
“Just shut up for one minute, will you?” he said quickly, as she paused for breath.
She shut up. It was something in his eyes, rather than his words, that made her fall silent. His eyes in the dimly lit elevator car were almost obsidian black and the thick, deeply dark brown weight of his hair fell over his forehead, shadowing the eyes even more. There was something in his face… She groped to define the subtle expression and could feel a growing frustration. Other people would be able to name it instantly, would understand that strange light straight away.
“You have no idea why I bet what I did and it’s chewing you up,” he said, his voice very quiet.
“Aren’t you at all worried that you might lose?” she asked. “That you might have to leave Deerfoot Falls?”
He smiled a little. “I’ve been kicked out of bigger and better places than this one. And you’re changing subjects on me. Not this time, Lindsay.” He stepped closer to her and suddenly the sides of the car seemed to close in around her. Too small. Much too small a space to house her and Luke at the same time.
She almost gasped.
“Have you ever wondered what it might be like to kiss me?” he asked softly.
She stared at him, flummoxed. Had she really heard him say what she thought he’d just said?
“I-I… What?” She blinked at him. Out of left field. Out of a blue sky. “What on Earth…?”
He smiled and it seemed to her that the smile was bitter. “I guess I have my answer,” he said, reaching for the small button that would restart the elevator’s descent.
Author’s Note
Lucifer’s Lover first emerged in fragmented chapters and pieces, many years ago. I was always fascinated by the idea of two people who professed to hate each other slowly uncovering the truth; that they really love each other with a world-moving depth and devotion. But because the story starts out with two people snarling at each other — two people who are not plastic perfection, who have strange quirks and odd lives — there was never any way the big New York publishers would look past page two, let alone buy it.
However, the story kept tugging on me, until finally I shrugged, and finished it. I had a blast writing it, and Lucifer is certainly up at the top of the ranked list of my books.
