A Play With Hugh Jackman And Daniel Craig In It…What Was the Play About, Exactly?
Beth Ciotta, a romance writer who is also an actress in her other life, has been chatting on her Facebook page in the last couple of days, about a play she went to see on Broadway, that starred Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig.
Wow!
I don’t even know what the name of the play is. I’d go and see it just because they’re in it. That’s enough to sell it for me. Those two actors are in my personal hit list of favourite heroes.
Then Beth added the coup de grâce. Apparently, both of them wore singlets for part of the show. What many Americans quaintly call “wife-beaters” for reasons completely beyond my comprehension. (Anyone care to clarify?)
Then the dollop of whipped cream. They auctioned off the singlets at the end of the show, for charity. Each singlet went for $3,500!
There’s Broadway plays and shows debuting all the time, but this one got press right across the States and, apparently, attention even here in little ‘ol Alberta, Canada. But actually…it’s not the play that got the attention at all. Because I still can’t tell you the name of the play. I can’t even tell you what the play is about.
Still…does the producer care? If the two “names” get bums in seats, do they really care if three-quarters of the audience aren’t quite sure what the play is called or what it’s about, so long as they pay their money?
You have to wonder if there’s some artistic core inside them that does still care why people came.
